Pay your bill
Have you ever been woken up during the night by the scratching sound of something moving around in the walls of your bedroom? How about cleaning your kitchen and found small droppings that make your stomach churn? Unfortunately, you are not the first person this has happened to. As one of the more common house pests in the U.S, mice are commonly found living inside houses, apartments, and commercial buildings. If left untreated, this can result in a rodent infestation.

Once you’ve heard rodent movements or found their droppings, you need to take action quickly. If you detect the presence of one mouse, you can be assured there are more you’re not seeing! Mice have a very short gestation cycle (3 weeks) and have large litters (average size of 8), so 2 mice quickly become 10, then 20, then 60 and so forth. Believe it or not, just sixty weeks of uncontrolled mouse infestation could result in over one million mice!

If the thought of reproducing mice doesn’t make your skin crawl, reading about the diseases carried by rodents will. Rodents such as the Deer Mouse, White-Footed Mouse, Cotton Rat, and Rice Rat carry hantaviruses which are shed through their droppings, urine, and saliva. If humans breathe air that is contaminated with hantavirus, they can contract severe and even fatal respiratory illnesses.

How to Know if You Have a Rodent Infestation

There are many common signs that you have a rodent infestation:
  • Finding small, cylindrical droppings in cupboards, drawers, and other areas where food is found.
  • Finding droppings in linen closets and other places where things like fabrics, paper, and other nesting material is stored.
  • Signs of chewing on food packages, especially in the corners of your home.
  • Finding holes on walls, flooring, and along baseboards where the rodent is potentially entering your home.
  • Foul scents surfacing from inside of tight, hidden areas

How to Get Rid of Mice

Due to its location in the southeastern United States, Mississippi has a mild climate and lush vegetation which mice thrive upon.

There are multiple ways to prevent infestation and rid yourself of mice once you realize you have them in your home. To begin with, keep the outside and inside of your house clean and free of food, clutter, and debris.

If you catch the infestation in the early stages, arranging mouse traps around your house might possibly be enough to eliminate the vermin. If you aren’t comfortable doing that or if you don’t catch the infestation in the early stages, then the best way to get rid of mice is by calling a professional pest control service to take care of the infestation for you.

Hear from a few people we have worked with...

“Bill and I started using TriCounty Pest Control for our home soon after we moved from Minnesota to Tupelo in 2001, and we have been extremely happy with the service we have received from Kevin Pannell. He has made extra trips to our home several times to deal with a particularly stubborn pest. We found out we had a nest of ants in our attic that happily stayed there, out of our notice, until we had our kitchen remodeled. Then they had a new pathway via the electrical cord for our stove.
